Locksmithing used to only require a working understanding of pin tumbler, wafer tumbler and bit locks. There were few key blank profiles to memorize. The historical locksmith could complete most jobs easily with just some key blanks, a few files, an assortment of pin tumblers and a graphite gun.
Today’s locksmith faces a more complex reality. The public now demands higher levels of security. Our goal is to keep our clients informed and continue being referred to as a professional service.
The locksmithing industry requires good intelligence and higher than average manual dexterity. Most jobs must first be analyzed and then be completed using some kind of hand work. Certain jobs may be unusual in some way—requiring special tools or equipment. Some locksmiths even devise special tools or gadgets to facilitate the work.
Where once basic hand tools could easily perform the necessary work, the tighter tolerances in modern locking systems and the precision tooling machines which produce them now mandate that the locksmith also needs precision equipment to service them.
