During the last decade, the locksmithing industry has made good progress opening the lines of communications … not only between fellow locksmiths, but throughout the entire industry. As diverse and specialized as the profession is quickly becoming, it is impossible for any individual locksmith to keep up without having access to new information.
If ever a career field was designed for specialization, locksmithing is that profession. While the principles of operation are fairly basic, the diversity of possible and probable applications are far more complex.
As a matter of fact, due to technological advances, even the principles of operation have become more complex, and these changes are speeding up. An additional reason the specialty areas are arriving is simply because there are so many easily defined areas in security: commercial locks, high-security locks, master keying, electric locks, electromechanical locks and electronic locks.
